FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is a Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt and is it right for me?
A Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt is a professional who understands the core principles of process improvement and can actively support improvement projects within a team. Yellow Belts know how Lean Six Sigma works, understand the DMAIC structure, and can contribute to solving operational problems in a practical way.
A Yellow Belt course is ideal if you want more than basic awareness but are not yet responsible for leading full improvement projects yourself. It is often the right choice for team leaders, supervisors, project team members, and professionals who want to improve productivity in their daily work.
How does the Yellow Belt differ from White and Green Belt levels?
A Yellow Belt supports improvement projects and understands the basic principles of Lean Six Sigma, but does not usually lead projects independently.
A Green Belt leads improvement projects within their own department and delivers measurable results using DMAIC. A Black Belt works at a broader organisational level, leading larger cross-functional projects and often coaching Green Belts.
How can a Yellow Belt course improve productivity in my department?
A Yellow Belt course helps you identify inefficiencies, reduce waste, and improve the way work is organised within your team or department. It gives you a structured approach to recognising problems and supporting improvements before they become larger operational issues.
In practice, this can mean improving communication between teams, reducing delays, minimising errors, and creating smoother workflows. Even small process improvements can create measurable gains in productivity, customer satisfaction, and team performance.
Because Yellow Belts work close to daily operations, they often play an important role in making continuous improvement practical and sustainable.
What is the duration of the Yellow Belt training and what are the study options?
Yellow Belt training is designed to be accessible and practical, with a shorter duration than Green Belt or Black Belt programmes. Most professionals complete the training within a few days, depending on the format and learning pace.
We offer the Yellow Belt course as a two-day in-house training, which includes exercises, a simulation, and group discussions. This option is often chosen by organisations that want to increase awareness of process improvement and Lean Six Sigma across the business.
Another option is our online self-paced course, which we have developed with our e-learning partner, TPC. This online course consists of 22 lessons and takes approximately 8 hours to complete.
So, depending on the learning format, the Yellow Belt course takes one to two days of training to complete.
Can I upgrade from a Yellow Belt to a Green or Black Belt later?
Yes. Yellow Belt is often the first step in a longer Lean Six Sigma development path.
Many professionals begin with Yellow Belt to build confidence and practical understanding before progressing to Green Belt, where they start leading projects independently. From there, Black Belt becomes the next step for larger cross-functional and strategic improvement work.
Your Yellow Belt knowledge creates a strong foundation for future certification and makes the transition to higher Belt levels smoother and more effective.
