The benefit of Black Belt initiatives
The main advantage of Black Belt projects is that they achieve more impactful results. Green Belt projects tend to be focused on a single department. Green Belts drive often smaller Lean Six Sigma initiatives and tend to work with smaller, more localised groups. Black Belts on the other hand are the true experts of the methodology. Their projects often include multiple departments with several stakeholders and contribute significantly to annual goals. They hold more of a leadership type of role, rather than the typical project management duties of a Green Belt. Black Belt knowledge is more effective in larger organisations which face more complex challenges and issues.

About the Green Belt to Black Belt course
Elevate your understanding of Lean Six Sigma to a new level. Become a Continuous Improvement leader and serve as expert during Lean Six Sigma projects. The Green Belt to Black Belt course is the ideal choice to reach the highest echelons of the methodology.
The effectiveness of Lean Six Sigma Black Belts stems from the ability to help everyone save time. Time is always in short supply. But by refining processes, creating shared routines and by changing how people deal with hurdles at work, Lean Six Sigma practitioners can save incredible amounts of time. Black Belts learn how to deconstruct and rebuild processes, learn how to involve others in Continuous Improvement and how to improve the working standard for everyone.

As a Black Belt, you now possess the knowledge to analyse and interpret process statistics with the help of tools such as Minitab. The insights gained by using such tools allow for incredibly effective process improvements.
In the next section, we highlight what specifics the course will offer.

The path to becoming certified as a Black Belt according to the ISO 18404 standards requires you to complete both a theory course and an in-field Lean Six Sigma project. The theory course takes place over the course of multiple days and is supported by a full digital suite of preparation materials. For the project you will receive coaching and project review from an experienced Lean Six Sigma expert.
If circumstances do not allow for a project during the same timeframe as the theory course, it is possible to start with theory only and to move on to your project at a later point in time.
EnrolReturn-on-investment
Results and cold, hard facts are often the best way to justify a purchase. Our courses are no different, and deliver said results without fail. After having trained countless of people in the Lean Six Sigma methodology, our findings are as follows: Black Belt projects generate extra revenue and/or save costs which can exceed amounts with more than 5 figures. With a project taking approximately 3 months, it is even possible to carry out multiple projects a year.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
1. What is the difference between Green Belt and Black Belt responsibilities?
A Green Belt typically leads improvement projects within their own department using the DMAIC structure to deliver measurable results. A Black Belt operates at a more advanced level, leading complex, cross-functional improvement initiatives across the organisation. Black Belts also take on a stronger analytical, strategic, and coaching role, supporting wider business transformation.
2. Should I choose the Services or Manufacturing Black Belt upgrade?
The choice depends on your working environment. The Services Black Belt is designed for office-based, transactional, or service-driven processes such as finance, healthcare, or administration. The Manufacturing Black Belt includes additional focus on production environments, including tools for variation, machine performance, and shop floor optimisation.
3. How long does it take to get Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification after Green Belt?
The duration varies depending on delivery format and project pace, but most professionals complete the Black Belt programme within 4 to 6 months. This includes training, examination, and completion of a real-world improvement project applied within your organisation.
4. I find statistics daunting; is the Black Belt upgrade still suitable for me?
Yes, the course is definitely relevant, and there is no need to worry too much about the statistical element.
The course is designed to make statistical tools practical and accessible, focusing on real business problems rather than complex mathematical theory. Tools such as Minitab are introduced step by step and always applied in a business context.
In addition, modern AI tools can provide valuable support in analysing and interpreting data, helping you identify patterns and draw insights more easily, even without a strong statistical background. This further reduces the need to rely on advanced mathematical expertise in your day-to-day work.
The goal is not to turn you into a statistician, but to help you make better, data-driven decisions in your daily work.
5. What is the best way to connect Black Belt projects with company strategy?
The most effective Black Belt projects are those that are clearly aligned with strategic business priorities. This means selecting projects that directly support key organisational goals such as cost reduction, customer satisfaction, operational efficiency, or growth.
Strong alignment is achieved through sponsorship, stakeholder engagement, and ensuring that project outcomes are measured in terms that matter at leadership level.
6. Where and when can I follow the Green Belt to Black Belt upgrade in the UK?
The Green Belt to Black Belt upgrade is available throughout the year in the UK, delivered through scheduled cohorts as well as flexible learning options. This allows participants to balance training with their professional responsibilities.
7. What are the specific Green Belt to Black Belt certification requirements?
To achieve Black Belt certification, participants must successfully complete the training modules, demonstrate applied understanding of Lean Six Sigma tools, and deliver a completed improvement project that shows measurable business impact. Assessment is based on both theoretical knowledge and practical application.
8. How does the Black Belt level increase my ROI for the company?
Black Belt professionals typically lead high-impact projects that deliver measurable financial and operational benefits. In many cases, a single successful project can generate significant savings, often exceeding the investment in training.
These benefits are achieved through reduced waste, improved efficiency, fewer errors, and better customer outcomes, all of which contribute directly to business performance.
9. Can I follow this upgrade if my Green Belt was obtained elsewhere?
Yes. You can join the Black Belt upgrade even if your Green Belt certification was completed with another provider, as long as you have a solid understanding of Lean Six Sigma fundamentals and your training was completed with a recognised course provider.
A review of your prior learning or experience may be carried out to ensure readiness.
10. How will this upgrade help me sustain improvement results long term?
Sustaining results requires more than implementing a solutionl, it means embedding improvements into everyday operations so they become part of how the organisation works.
In an ever-changing environment, organisations must continuously adapt and improve. Improvement is never truly finished, as change is the only constant. For this reason, sustainability depends on building systems that support routines, behaviours, and ongoing accountability.
Long-term success is achieved when improvement becomes part of the organisation’s culture, supported and reinforced across every level of the organisation, rather than treated as a one-off project.
