New London location for Green Belt and Black Belt Services certification

The Lean Six Sigma Company has opened a new training location in London, offering its Green Belt and Black Belt Services programmes from a permanent base in the City. The new training location is at 46 New Broad Street, just a one-minute walk from Liverpool Street Station, providing professionals across the capital with convenient access to Lean Six Sigma training. The first three training days are delivered in person in London, while the remaining instructor-led days take place live online.

“Opening a training location in London was a natural step for us. We are seeing a growing demand for structured Continuous Improvement skills across the service industry, from banks and insurers to law firms, consultancies and shared service centres. With so many of these organisations based close to Liverpool Street, having a dedicated training location here makes it much easier for professionals to develop these skills without being away from their workplace for an entire week. By combining three consecutive days of classroom training in London with the remaining instructor-led days online, we can offer the best of both worlds: meaningful face-to-face learning combined with the flexibility that today’s professionals need.”
— Geert Brokking, Director of The Lean Six Sigma Company

Lean Six Sigma certification in London

Two levels of Lean Six Sigma certification are now available in London with The Lean Six Sigma Company.

Green Belt certification is designed for professionals who lead improvement projects within their organisation. It covers the Lean and Six Sigma toolkit through DMAIC, including process mapping, measurement systems, root cause analysis, statistical testing and process control.

The programme combines three days of classroom-based training in London with four instructor-led online days. Green Belt certification also includes coaching on a real improvement project within your own organisation. This project forms an important part of the certification process, meaning participants apply what they have learned to a real business challenge rather than simply completing an exam.

Black Belt Services certification is the advanced level, designed for professionals who will lead improvement and change across departments or throughout an organisation. The programme combines three days of classroom-based training in London with six instructor-led online days. It goes considerably deeper into data analytics and statistical analysis, as well as the leadership skills required to drive organisational change.

There are no prerequisites for the Black Belt programme, meaning participants can enrol directly or use it as an opportunity to progress from Green Belt to Black Belt.

Both certifications are aligned with ISO 18404 and ISO 13053 and are recognised in more than 40 countries.

Written for services, taught by a Master Black Belt

The London programme is built around service processes. The exercises, case studies and project examples come from areas such as claims handling, customer and client onboarding, underwriting, loan and mortgage processing, payments, reconciliations, (financial) reporting, client reporting and back-office operations. In this type of work, the output is often information, and waste can be difficult to see. It accumulates in the handovers between teams, approval queues, rework, duplicated checks and the days a file or application spends waiting for someone to process it.

Throughout the programme, participants apply the tools to a process from their own organisation. This means the analysis is based on real data and a genuine business challenge rather than a worked example.

Both London programmes are led by David Hirst, one of The Lean Six Sigma Company’s most senior Master Black Belts. He has more than 25 years of experience leading Continuous Improvement and major transformation programmes across financial and professional services.

“In service organisations, the process is usually invisible, so when a problem arises, it often does so at a point far removed from where the problem was created,” says David Hirst, Master Black Belt at The Lean Six Sigma Company.

“A lot of the value in a Green Belt or Black Belt certification comes from the moment a team finally sees its own process mapped out and realises how much of the day is spent waiting, checking and redoing work, and where the problem actually originates. Getting people to that moment is what these three days in London are all about.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can I get a Lean Six Sigma certification in London?

Yes. The Lean Six Sigma Company delivers Green Belt and Black Belt Services certification in London, with the classroom days held at its new location near Liverpool Street and the remaining days delivered live online. Both certifications are aligned with ISO 18404 and ISO 13053.

2. Should I take Green Belt or Black Belt certification?

Choose Green Belt certification if you will lead defined improvement projects inside your own team or department and need DMAIC, the Lean tools and some working data analysis. Choose Black Belt certification if you will lead change that crosses departments, if you will mentor other people running projects, or if you face problems where nobody knows the root cause and it has to be found statistically. Neither has formal entry requirements, and Green Belt holders can upgrade later without starting again.

3. How much time away from work does the certification take?

Three consecutive classroom days, plus instructor-led online days spread across the following weeks. Beyond that, most participants spend a few hours a week on their improvement project, which is usually work they would be doing in any case. Green Belt certification typically takes three to four months end to end. Black Belt Services takes four to six.

4. Is the certification internationally recognised?

Certifications from The Lean Six Sigma Company are aligned with ISO 18404 and ISO 13053 and are recognised in more than 40 countries, and participants retain access to the MyTraining™ learning platform after certification.

5. Can these courses be run for our own team instead?

Yes. Both programmes can be delivered in-house for a single organisation, at the London location or on your own premises, with the case studies and the improvement project built around your processes.
